This is the most common musculoskeletal foot problem seen at the practice. It can be very painful and debilitating. Plantar Fasciitis is inflammation of the tissues and muscles that support your arch.
Pain is usually worse first thing in the morning, after rest, or during exercise. Plantar Fasciitis is an overuse injury. As you walk or exercise, the arch of the foot flattens, and as this is repeated it can cause small tears, resulting in inflammation.
There are many reasons why Plantar Fasciitis occurs, such as an increase in exercise, wearing the wrong type of footwear, having poor biomechanics and tight calf muscles.
Treatment usually consists of: orthotics, exercises, massage, corticosteroid injections or surgery.
