Diabetes Amputations Rate Growing

The Australian Podiatry Council has found that urgent action is required to help reduce the risk of lower limb amputations for patients with diabetes.

It is estimated that as many as 24 people per day are having an amputation as a result of complications in diabetes.

Diabetes can cause circulation problems, which can prevent sores and scars from healing properly,  leading to seriously infected wounds that may not heal at all - resulting in an amputation.

It is important to have your feet checked at least once per year to test for adequate sensation and blood supply.  Our Podiatrists are able to provide a diabetic foot examination along with a detailed report for the client's GP or Specialist.
