A Calcaneal Spur (Heel Spur) consists of a spike of bone that has grown on the Calcaneous (Heel Bone), causing pain in a specific point on the heel.

This can be associated with Plantar Fasciitis.

People with a Calcaneal Spur usually have a very pronated foot position, and often play high impact sports such as rugby or running.

Treatment options include:

  • Bespoke orthoses to correct the foot function and to redistribute the pressure away from the spur
  • Ultrasound guided corticosteroid injection
  • Surgical removal of the spur
