Lower Back Pain

The charity Backcare estimates the overall cost of back pain to the NHS, business and the economy, at a staggering 5 billion per year.

The spine is made up of 33 irregular shaped bones (vertebrae).  Each vertebrae has a hole in the middle where the spinal cord is, and in between each vertebrae are discs that act as shock absorbers.

Scoliosis - This is a deformity of the spine into a S or C shape.  This can be non-structural Scoliosis (mobile), from a condition caused outside of the spine, and disappears when that is corrected.  For example one leg being longer than the other, then the Scoliosis will correct when you sit down.  This will be instantly rectified by bespoke orthoses to correct the limb length.

The other is structural Scoliosis (true), where there is a fixed curvature in your spine.  Usually the cause of this cannot be treated.
